Cooperation Sensor

Here are two cooperation projects made by me and Yanfang Di. We used one microbit as a receiver to receive light and the power of the sliding sensor to run a servo. We set the limitation volume as 700, which means if the sliding sensor receives a larger number than 700, the servo will receive a message to run itself.

Temperature Sensor

This week, we have learned the way to use microbit to do some basic programming work. After learning about basic tips, I have developed this temperature sensor project. The suitable temperature environment for people is from 18-23 Celsius. So when the temperature is lower than 18, the screen will show an inverted triangle and a string "Cold". When the temperature is higher than 23, the screen will display a normal triangle and a string "Hot". Otherwise, the screen will show a tick symbol with the word"Great" Here is the link of my project. https://makecode.microbit.org/_WqPdvVdVxdPe

The six project-Lightening Lotus

Image
This week, thread is used as the conductor and we are supposed to employ this new tool in our creative design.  I am always fond of embroidery, so I tried to incorporate this new thread into my piece. I used the needle and the thread to create a simple lotus with leaf and pin the LED in the nectar of the lotus to enlighten the whole piece. In class,  I have learned the way to use switch to control the LED of this lotus by using several conductor and button. Here is the complete work!

Halloween greeting card

Image
This time, I tried to use the soft circuit to create my Halloween greeting card.  I decided to include a pumpkin in my greeting card with dark blue night background. I planned to set the two light bulbs on the "eye" of the pumpkin. I followed the instructions on the class to create it. But later I found that the button battery cannot afford two little light bulbs on the circuit. So I just changed my design and created two separate circuits. Later, I found the dark blue paper I brought back from Thingspace are too thick for the light bulbs to exposure its light. So I choose a letter size paper and paint it with blue color to finish my greeting card. Here is the finished version.

The fourth project- My favorite instrument

The idea of invention literacy is quite impressive for me, especially the saying"If it can be created by a human, then it can be recreated by you, me, and all of us. But only if we all believe in ourselves as inventors (and re-inventors)."( Jay Silver, Invention literacy) Inspired by the idea that every human-created staff can be recreated by me and the class instruction, I start to think about use Makey Makey to recreate my favorite instrument- Guzheng. I have played it for a few years and I still play it to relieve my stress recently. So I decided to choose it as my recreated object. Firstly, I recorded the sound of Guzheng on my iphone and wrote a simple script on Scractch to use those sounds. The special thing for Guzheng is that, it mainly have 5 strings (12356)for one scale and you need to press the string to get 4 and 7. So I decided to choose the simplest version of the piece "Jasmine". As for the objects to connect to my laptop, Yanfang has proposed m...

The third project-Lotus Pool

Image
"Gears of My childhood" reminds me of several beautiful and unforgotten moments in my childhood.  I grew up besides Sichuan University in China and my grandparents were both professors of that university. In this case, my family is closely connected with this community. So that I could get touch with many memorable history of this place. This university was called West China Union University and it was established several missionaries from US and Canada. The beautiful campus is composed of architectures combined western and eastern style. Besides, the layout of the whole campus focus on the interaction between human and nature. Among those scenarios, the one I like the most is the lotus pool. I love the singing of the frogs at summer night, as well as the smell of the lotus flowers. So I was inspired to develop this simple game in Scratch. https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/248979695/ By pressing the space key, frogs will accumulate their energy to get re...

The second project: Fireworks night

Image
After learning about the basic steps to develop the turtle art project, I started to find one suitable topic to make my own turtle art piece. When I stand on the subway and scrolled down the photos on my phone,  I found this picture I took a few days ago when I walked along with friends at Hudson Rivers. Then I decided to create a different version of this photo to delete the city elements and add some fireworks to my art piece. When I searched on the turtle art gallery, I found a few art pieces I can borrow some elements. such as these two pieces: After analyzing their codes and elements, I was happy to adopt the boat elements and the fan-shaped object into my work. With the up-middle-down three-layered layout, I put the fireworks on the up-level of the whole piece and make boats close to the sea level. I adjusted the block codes from these two pieces including the shape the color and the position. With some experimental experience, I made this piece. ...
