The second project: Fireworks night

Image
After learning about the basic steps to develop the turtle art project, I started to find one suitable topic to make my own turtle art piece. When I stand on the subway and scrolled down the photos on my phone,  I found this picture I took a few days ago when I walked along with friends at Hudson Rivers. Then I decided to create a different version of this photo to delete the city elements and add some fireworks to my art piece. When I searched on the turtle art gallery, I found a few art pieces I can borrow some elements. such as these two pieces: After analyzing their codes and elements, I was happy to adopt the boat elements and the fan-shaped object into my work. With the up-middle-down three-layered layout, I put the fireworks on the up-level of the whole piece and make boats close to the sea level. I adjusted the block codes from these two pieces including the shape the color and the position. With some experimental experience, I made this piece. ...

The first project of digital foundation class

I chose the “dancing cup” with the color response for this assignment. Since the interaction between human and computer should be highlighted in this process, I found it may be difficult to generate the instant feedback in this process. In this case, I decided to use the tool that utilizes the blockly code so that it thoughts could be easily applied to the project. Then I found Cospace and use it to create an interactive dancing cup scenery. At first, I chose a dusky room environment. In the second place, I selected “cup” from the object list in the “library” of the Cospace.   After learning some basic skills to organize the block code on Cospace,   I set an action to turn the cup clockwise to let it dance when the user clicks the cup. Meanwhile, the cup would change color and become larger. Here is the link of this project. https://cospac.es/8jsK I really appreciate the idea incorporated in the article”All I need to know about creative thinking I learne...

For 2042

For 2042 Personally Speaking, the scenario “Trust yourself” is most viable in 2042 in the Facer & Sandford (2010) reading. It predicts a highly individualized world where people can develop their lifelong personalized education system composed of components chosen from the standardized provision. In my viewpoint, the personalized product can be viewed as a symbol of development in highly commercialized society. In the post-industrialization era, people start to get tired of standardized products and seek for more specific service. As the cost of personalized decreases, especially the fixed costs since most of the personalized studying plans can be achieved through the Internet in present time, more education firms enter in this market. This situation would avail us of lowering price of the individualized education system. For instance, in the past, only members of upper class have the privilege to hire several tutors to take care of every aspect of their studying. However,...

Progress about research 2

Following suggestions of the professor, I narrow the scope of study and regard xMOOCs as the object of the literature review. After the discussion with classmates, I found that the components of my research question are not so clear. Since my research question is   “What features of social media can be utilized to help xMOOC to improve students’ engagement?” , I am supposed to make it clear what are the principles and standards of engagement level. So in this week, I mainly focus on the engagement in xMOOCs and conclude some standards according to past research papers. Collaboration and discussion forums The xMOOCs provide learners a chance to experience co-creation rather than accessing stale catalogs of content( Cormier & Siemens, 2010) and discussion forums are symbols of co-creation.  Integration of social media tools into popular open learning sources may complement the shortage of discussion forums due to its non-anonymous characteristic (Anderi & Vlad...

Progress about research

My research question is that “What features of social media can be utilized to help MOOC to improve students’ engagement?” and I plan to access this problem from two aspects: The first point is about existing problems of MOOCs platforms and why those problems block further students’ engagement. Secondly, I would point to the features of successful cases of utilizing social media platforms to promote engagement and participation. In this way, it is easier to investigate what features of social media can be applied to MOOCs. In this week, I have mainly looked through research papers about this topic. And I find that the engagement problems are more severe in adult learning. Since undergraduates and master students may be pushed by colleges and academic requirement, they are more active participants. And they also can get access to off-line studying resources compared to people who have already worked. Thus, I am considering redefining the objects I will focus on. Besides, I ...

Questions related to presentation

I am so glad to hear various and impressive discussion from my classmates and I one question from Ning An( Is there any problems in sample selection part? ), a combined question from Marianna Breytman and Daniel Ahn (Can you elaborate on how you would improve MOOC consumer engagement through social media? Would be interested in hearing your ideas and specifics! What kind of research studies would you conduct if you wanted to apply this theory to MOOCs? ). Question 1: Engage more users into MOOC through social media ways. After analyzing the article of “Creative strategies in Social Media Marketing: An Exploratory Study of Branded Social Content and Consumer Engagement”, I find a similarity between the consumer engagement and user engagement of MOOC system. In essence, MOOC is online educational course products aim to have a broader audience. The aim to spread it to a larger extent of the audience is the same with the goal of the brand to promote products. In this Case, both...
